Crestview, FL — A Sunday evening domestic dispute ended with a Crestview man being arrested on an open count of murder after he allegedly shot and killed his estranged wife.
The Crestview Police Department responded to 1232 Northview Drive in the Countryview Estates neighborhood at approximately 6:42 p.m. Sunday evening to a 911 call reporting a gunshot victim.
Upon arrival at the residence, Derek Jonathan McKinney, 32, met officers in the front yard where he was immediately detained and later arrested for the Murder of his wife, 34 year-old Natasha McKinney.
According to the news release, Natasha McKinney, was found by officers laying on the floor of the master bedroom that they shared. A black semi-automatic handgun was found on the floor near her head and a cellular phone was located adjacent to her feet.
The Florida Department of Law Enforcement responded, and upon receipt of a search warrant, assisted Crestview Police in investigating the scene of the shooting.
Derek McKinney did make a spontaneous utterance to officers when they arrived and participated in an interview after being read his Miranda rights. However, those statements were redacted from the arrest report.
