Saturday, June 20, 2026

Crestview, FL — An Okaloosa County School bus driver has been arrested for DUI and child neglect following a Friday afternoon traffic crash in Crestview.

On Friday, June 19, 2026, at 1:35 p.m. officers of the Crestview Police Department responded to an accident involving an Okaloosa County School District School bus on 8th Avenue near the intersection of North Ferdon Boulevard (S.R. 85).

The investigation determined the driver of the school bus, 62-year-old Mechelle Prevoznik, backed the school bus into a vehicle stopped behind her on 8th Ave.

During the course of the investigation, officers smelled the odor of an alcoholic beverage emitting from her person and conducted a DUI investigation. During the DUI investigation, Field Sobriety Tests indicated signs of impairment.

Prevoznik, who has a CDL License to operate a school bus, was detained and later provided a sample of breath that showed she had a Blood Alcohol Content (BAC) of 0.048.

In Florida, CDL drivers specifically, cannot have a BAC content of 0.040 or higher.

At the time of the accident, there were six children on the school bus. As the accident was a low-speed backing accident, there were no reported injuries.

Prevoznik was arrested and charged with Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol and six (6) counts of Child Neglect without Bodily Harm.

According to the Okaloosa County Jail website, Prevoznik remains in custody without bond.
