Multi-County Pursuit Involving Four Agencies Ends In PIT Maneuver on Galliver Cutoff

Galliver, FL — A Walton County man is now in custody in Okaloosa County following a multi-county car chase.
32-year-old Eugene Clements Hayslip, of DeFuniak Springs, is now in custody at the Okaloosa County Jail after he led law enforcement from four different agencies in a multi-county pursuit.
According to the arrest report, at approximately 6pm, Thursday, March 20th, the Florida Highway Patrol received a bolo from the Walton County Sheriff’s Office in reference to a suicidal subject who had possibly discharged a firearm traveling westbound on Interstate 10. Approximately 30 minutes later, State Troopers were advised deputies with the Santa Rosa County Sheriff’s Office were behind the vehicle traveling westbound on Hwy 90 entering Santa Rosa County. Moments later, Hayslip made a U-turn heading east on Hwy 90 back into Okaloosa County.
Hayslip continued east on Hwy 90 and turned north on Galliver Cutoff while being pursued by multiple law enforcement officers. According to the arrest report, Troopers were advised that Hayslip was possibly in possession of a rifle and handgun.
During the pursuit, Hayslip drove in an erratic manner swerving in the roadway. After multiple attempts to bring the chase to an end, a trooper was successful using a PIT maneuver which sent Hayslip’s truck into a chain-link fence in front of a residence on Galliver Cutoff just south of Lighthouse Church Rd. After ordering Hayslip out of the truck several times and him failing to do so, Hayslip was removed and placed under arrest and transported to the Okaloosa County Jail.
While at the jail, Hayslip was given a breath analyzer due to showing signs of impairment which revealed a breath alcohol level of .101.
Eugene Clements Hayslip was charged with fleeing and attempting to elude law enforcement, reckless driving, resisting an officer without violence and DUI. At this time, Hayslip remains in custody at the Okaloosa County Jail without bond. It is unknown if he faces charges with any other agency.
