Crestview, Fla. – An early morning single vehicle accident in Crestview has claimed the life of a motorcyclist.

At approximately 1:40 am Friday morning, first responders responded to the intersection of N Ferdon and James Lee Blvd in reference to a traffic crash.

Upon arrival, responding units discovered a motorcycle lodged inside First Presbyterian Church located at 492 N. Ferdon Blvd.

Although the accident is under investigation, it appears the motorcycle was south bound on Ferdon Blvd at a high rate of speed, failed to negotiate the curve after traveling through the intersection of James Lee Blvd, struck a road sign in the triangle median and crashed into the Northeast side of the church which faces Ferdon Blvd.

According to Major Andrew Schneider with the Crestview Police Department, the accident involved only one vehicle, a motorcycle, and the operator was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office, Crestview Fire Department and Okaloosa County EMS also responded to the accident.

If this location seems familiar, it is because a similar accident occurred shortly after midnight on February 18, 2023. In that accident, a single vehicle was also south bound on Ferdon Blvd, after the intoxicated driver passed through the intersection, he failed to negotiate the curve in the roadway, struck a road sign, rolled the car and crashed into the northwest side of the church causing an estimated $750,000.00 in damage. The driver of that accident was arrested for Driving Under the Influence resulting in an accident involving serious bodily injury and later sentenced to 7 years in state prison.

We will have more on the fatal accident involving the motorcycle as soon as the Crestview Police Department releases their preliminary report.
