Officer Involved Shooting Sends One to the Hospital and Leaves One Dead

Gulf Breeze, FL – One person is dead, and another injured after Home Invasion turns into Officer Involved Shooting in South Santa Rosa County.
According to a news release from Sgt. Rich Aloy with the Santa Rosa County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to a home in the 2000 block of Bright Water Drive in Gulf Breeze (Midway Area) at approximately 12:50 p.m. on Tuesday, March 27, 2018, about a suspicious person.
While enroute, the caller stated the suspect had just broke into her home.
Upon arrival the deputy observed the suspect exit the front door of the residence. The suspect then advanced the deputy in the driveway and engaged in a physical altercation. During the struggle, the deputy shot the suspect.
According to the news release, the suspect was pronounced deceased on scene and the deputy was transported to a local hospital for injuries.
The Florida Department of Law Enforcement responded to the scene as is normal procedure with all officer involved shootings and is leading the investigation.
The Deputy is in good condition and no further information is expected to be released until FDLE completes their investigation.
