Two in Custody After Crestview Convenience Store Robbed At Gun Point

A Crestview man who had just been profiled as a fugitive this week by Emerald Coast Crime Stoppers didn’t bother to try to stay off the radar. Instead he and an accomplice committed an armed robbery just before midnight at a Tom Thumb in Crestview. But an observant witness combined with excellent teamwork by law enforcement helped put both behind bars this morning.

OCSO Investigators say 20-year old Keyshan McClearn and 22-year old Jamel Coleman robbed the Tom Thumb Convenience store located at 1992 W. James Lee Boulevard at gunpoint around midnight and fled with a small amount of cash. An EMS ambulance crew was in the parking lot during the robbery.

A crewmember was able to provide a description of a possible suspect vehicle seen at the store. A BOLO – or “Be On the Look Out” advisory resulted in a Crestview Police Department Officer spotting the car at Aplin Apartments with two men present. OCSO units arrived and took the suspects in for interviews.

Evidence visible in the video footage of the robbery at the store was in plain view inside the car. Deputies also found a fully loaded firearm next to the rear left tire.

Coleman and McClearn are charged with armed robbery.

“Well done to all involved in helping get two dangerous individuals off the streets quickly,” said Sheriff Ashley. “These results were a combination of strong witness information and excellent law enforcement teamwork.”

McClearn had also been wanted for felony violation of probation on an original charge of credit card fraud.
