Fort Walton Beach, FL — An alert citizen called the Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office Monday morning after spotting a reckless driver who then appeared to pass out inside a car near a Beal Parkway convenience store.
Arriving Deputies discovered not only had the black Toyota Rav 4 been reported stolen March 4th, but the driver was a convicted felon who had been sitting on a semi-automatic handgun on the driver’s seat.
22-year old LaKeith Jamar Armstrong of Shrewsbury Road in Mary Esther is charged with grand theft auto, carrying a concealed weapon, possession of a weapon by a convicted felon, and two counts of resisting arrest.
Deputies say Armstrong initially refused to give his name, and then while handcuffed broke away from a deputy and tried to escape. He was captured after a brief foot chase.
The investigation is continuing and additional charges are pending.
