February 6, 2018

Fort Walton Beach, FL – The Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office is conducting a review after a School Resource Officer inadvertently left her service weapon inside a faculty bathroom off-limits to students.

The weapon was there less than five minutes before the officer realized she had not put it back on her belt after placing it on a shelf approximately six feet above the floor.

She was on her way to retrieve it when a parent noticed it inside the faculty bathroom at Elliot Point Elementary School around 9:10 a.m. while looking for paper towels.

The SRO reported the incident immediately to her supervisors.

An inquiry is underway.

No students were at risk.
