Crestview, FL — A 20-year-old Crestview man was remanded to the Okaloosa County Jail for robbing a local convenience store at gunpoint this morning, Thursday January 18, 2018, during which he stole two packs of cigarettes valued at $13.11.

Matthew Steven Peacock allegedly robbed the Tom Thumb store at the corner of Old Bethel Road and State Road 85 around 11:07 a.m. Following the theft, Mr. Peacock was seen crossing S.R. 85 to the new Publix supermarket, which is across the highway from the Tom Thumb. He subsequently headed west on Airport Road and was found less than half a mile from the scene of the robbery.
Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office deputies assisted in the apprehension of the suspect because Airport Road is in county jurisdiction, though the scene of the robbery is within city limits. Old Bethel Road becomes Airport Road upon crossing S.R. 85.
The Tom Thumb clerk at whom Mr. Peacock allegedly pointed a handgun positively identified him at the scene of his apprehension near the intersection of Airport Road and Houston Lane.
Mr. Peacock was charged with armed robbery.
Today’s Tom Thumb robbery is unrelated to a Jan. 17 armed robbery of a Crestview Cash’s liquor store. The suspect in that holdup, a black man with sagging trousers, is still being sought by police.
