Shots Fired And Speeding Vehicle Results In Meth Arrest

DeFuniak Springs, FL – After police responded to shots fired in the area and pulling over a vehicle a large amount of drugs and a gun was taken off the streets of DeFuniak Springs.

DeFuniak Springs Police received a complaint of shots fired in the area of N. First Street late Tuesday night.  Officers arrived at approximately 11:30 p.m. and observed a white sedan going over the speed limit.

A traffic stop was conducted and Officers detected a strong odor of marijuana coming from within the vehicle through the driver’s window.  A search was conducted and approximately 40 grams of marijuana was located inside the center console.

Along with the marijuana, a .380 semi auto handgun with a defaced serial number, multiple small baggies of a white substance suspected of being methamphetamine, bag containing heroin, pill bottles containing different pills that included Xanax, and a bag of crack cocaine.  Additionally, scales and additional items consistent with the sale of drugs were located inside the vehicle.

The driver, 22 year old Channa Afterkirk of Destin, admitted to possessing the illegal drugs and firearm.  She was arrested and transported to the Walton County Jail on charges of Trafficking in Narcotics, Possession with Intent to Distribute Narcotics, Possession of an Altered Firearm, Possession of Firearm in the Commission of a Felony, Possession of a Controlled Substance without a Prescription, and Possession of More Than 20 grams of Marijuana.
