Crestview, FL  — A 13-year-old boy was shot several times around 6:10 this morning at a school bus stop at Rayburn Street and Williams Avenue and a juvenile suspect is in custody.

Several schools, including Davidson, Crestview High School, Walker Elementary School and Southside Primary School, which is closest to the incident site, were placed in lockdown as a precaution.

The intersection was closed while the Crestview Police Department’s Investigations Division investigated the scene. Students who took a later bus were escorted around the scene to their waiting school bus by a Crestview Police officer while the investigation was underway.

The victim was transported to a Pensacola hospital where he is in stable condition. The shooting suspect was detained within in hour at Fairview Park and a 9 mm semi-automatic pistol, which had recently been stolen from an unlocked vehicle, was recovered.

“We cannot stress enough the importance of locking your vehicle,” Crestview Police Commander Andrew Schneider said. “This is a clear example of why you shouldn’t store firearms in your vehicle or fail to lock the vehicle.”

The suspect has not currently been charged and the incident remains under investigation.
