Victim Dies in Crestview Shooting

Crestview, FL – According to a statement from the Crestview Police Department, 22 year old Richard Earl Lee King of Crestview passed away from injuries sustained in a shooting that took place in the early morning hours on Wednesday.

On Wednesday, October 4, 2017 at 1:23 am, Officers with the Crestview Police Department responded to a reported shooting at the Crape Myrtle Apartments located at 1005 Martin Luther King Jr. Ave in Crestview.

According to a news release, officers responded to the apartment complex which was formerly named Mir-A-Mar Apartments for a report of shots fired. Upon arrival officers discovered, 22 year old Richard Earl Lee King of Crestview, with a gun shot to the head.

Upon further investigation, officers discovered the victim’s silver Acura had several bullet holes in it and had backed into a resident’s vehicle. Investigator’s also found several shell casings at the scene as well as a black Cadillac bearing Texas license plates with blood inside.

“We’re trying to follow up on several leads” said Sgt, Harp with the Criminal Investigations Division. “Several people who were on the scene took off when we arrived”.

King was transported to to the Fort Walton Beach Medical Center’s Trauma Center in critical condition and succumbed to his injuries at 4:25 pm Thursday, October 5, 2017.

The Crestview Police Department is now conducting this incident as a homicide investigation.

FDLE (Florida Department of La Enforcement) did respond to the scene and is assisting in the investigation.
