Standoff After Domestic Dispute Ends Peacefully

Fort Walton Beach, FL – A Fort Walton Beach man is now behind bars after point a handgun at his sister and threatened to kill her after he was asked to move out.

Deputies with the Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office responded Doyce Drive around 9 p.m. Friday night in reference to a domestic altercation involving a handgun. Upon arrival deputies attempted contact at the residence, however no one would respond.

A short time later, the victim came to the residence and informed deputies that she had left a note on her brother’s bedroom door telling him he had to move out of the residence. When her brother, 52 year old Michael Koch Boyd, saw the note, an argument ensued.

During the argument, Boyd produced a small handgun, pointed it at the victim’s head and threatened to kill her. The victim stated she feared for her life and grabbed the barrel of the gun to point it away from her. After a brief struggle with her brother, the brother stepped back and into the kitchen. The arrest report further stated the victim grabbed her young child and fled the residence to safety.

The report stated while the deputy was attempting to make contact with Boyd using a PA system, a second victim from within the residence called 911 and was eventually patched through to the deputy on scene. The second victim informed the deputy when she attempted to leave the residence, Boyd told her he would do bodily harm to her if she did.

The news release did state at some point a roommate was rescued from a second story window and led to safety.

As a result of the hostage situation, the Special Response Team and Crisis Negotiations Unit was requested to respond. Several hours of negotiation led to Boyd surrendering peacefully.

Boyd was transported to booking on charges of assault and aggravated assault with a weapon and later to the hospital after complaining of pains. When he was released, he was transported to the Okaloosa County Jail and booked on charges of assault.

Patrol completed a search warrant and later found the suspects gun, holster and some ammo. OCSO Street Crimes, CNU and SRT played a huge role in this successful resolution.
