Traffic Stop Leads to Arrest of Attempted Murder Suspect

July 14, 2017

Gulf Breeze, FL – A Louisiana man wanted for attempted murder is now behind bars in Santa Rosa County.

At approximately 5:50 am this Friday morning a Deputy with the Santa Rosa County Sheriff’s Office was on routine patrol on Hwy 98 in Gulf Breeze. The Deputy observed a vehicle traveling at 65 mph in a 45 mph zone and initiated a traffic stop for a simple speeding infraction.

During the course of the traffic stop, the Deputy identified the driver of the vehicle as Devin Deques Anderson (DOB 6/19/92). While checking to see if Anderson’s driver license was valid and if he had any warrants for his arrest, it was revealed there was an active warrant. Dispatch advised the Deputy that Anderson had an active warrant out of Louisiana for an attempted murder charge.  During a search of Anderson’s vehicle, drugs and a loaded handgun were discovered.

Anderson was charged with Fugitive from justice out-of-state and transported to the Santa Rosa County Jail. The charge of fugitive from justice out of state is simply a charge to hold a person wanted in a different state until that person can be extradited to the jurisdiction who has the active warrant.
