Okaloosa Grand Jury returns with Indictment for First Degree Premeditated Murder in the shooting death of Robert Nicholas Mayall

Destin, FL – On Saturday, July 1, 2017 a homeless man found the lifeless body of Robert Nicholas Mayall in Destin’s Harbor View Park. Less than 48 hours later, the Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office has arrested a Destin man in connection with the slaying.

William Joffre Reed

Investigators with the Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office were able to develop 36-year old William Joffre Reed of 547 Driftwood Lane as a suspect in the murder of Mayall June 30th at Harbor View Park in Destin. Reed was arrested on July 2nd.

Although Reed made attempts to change his appearance after the crime, he ultimately confessed once he was confronted with evidence gathered by OCSO investigators.

Reed said, he and Mayall went to the park late in the evening to smoke and he then shot Mayall multiple times “in cold blood” before leaving the scene.

The weapon was located buried behind a Destin business.
