Fatal Accident in Walton County Claims the Life of Rosemary Beach Man

A 21 year old Rosemary Beach man lost his life in a fatal accident shortly after midnight Tuesday morning July 4, 2017.
According to a Florida Highway Patrol news release, 21 YO Brennen L Johns of Rosemary Beach, FL was operating a black 2014 Honda Civic that was traveling east on US Highway 98 in the outside lane approaching Marie Drive.
33 YO Jerry Peace II of Panama City Beach, FL was operating a red 2004 Dodge Durango that was traveling east on U.S. Highway 98 in the outside lane ahead of Johns’ Honda Civic.
According to the accident report, Johns approached Peace’s Dodge Durango at a higher rate of speed and initiated a lane change from the outside lane to the inside lane.
During the lane change, the front of the Honda Civic struck the rear of the Dodge Durango. As a result of the collision, the Honda entered into a slide and rotated. The Honda then overturned and came to final rest in the center median of US Highway 98 facing southeast.
The force of the impact caused the Dodge to rotate and strike the eastbound guardrail on the south shoulder of the roadway before coming to final rest on the south shoulder of US Highway 98 facing west.
According to the report, Brennen L Johns, who was not wearing a seatbelt, died at the scene and his 52 YO passenger, Gregory Johns, was transported to Emerald Coast Sacred Heart Hospital with minor injuries. Peace did not suffer any injuries.
Alcohol could have been a factor in the accident and the charges are pending the conclusion of the traffic homicide investigation.
