Fatal Accident on Interstate 10 in Walton County Claims One Life

One person is dead and another in serious condition following a fatal accident on Interstate 10 at mile marker 90 that occurred shortly after noon today in Walton County.

According to a Florida Highway Patrol news release, a 2015 Toyota 4dr  was traveling westbound on Interstate 10 and a 2006 Ford SUV, driven by Mark Gentry of Burley, ID, was traveling eastbound on Interstate 10 in the left lane.

For unknown reasons, the four door Toyota crossed the center grass median and entered the eastbound lanes. Being unable to avoid the collision, the right front of the Ford struck the right side of the Toyota. The impact of the collision ripped the rear end of the Toyota off and the driver was ejected. The driver landed on the south shoulder of the Interstate.

The Ford came to final rest within the right lane facing east along the rear portion of the Toyota. The Toyota came to final rest facing north on the south shoulder of the emergency lane of the Interstate.

The identity of the driver of the Toyota is being withheld until notification can be made to the family. Gentry was transported to Bay Medical Center in serious condition.

Charges are pending the conclusion of the Traffic Homicide Investigation.
