Niceville Man Victim of fatal Accident in Pensacola

Niceville resident, Gary L Surgner Jr., was fatally injured in a Monday night traffic accident in North Pensacola.

According to a traffic crash press release from the Florida Highway Patrol, Surgner and Sean M Harris of Pensacola, FL had just left the Circle K, located at 2205 West Nine Mile Rd and were attempting to crossing Pine Forest Rd on foot.

While they were walking east across the road toward the Pine Forest Center they stepped into the northbound right turn lane on Pine Forest Rd into the path of a 2005 Hyundai Santa Fe driven by John McDowell of Pensacola.

With McDowell being unable to avoid the collision, the front of the Santa Fe struck both Surgner and Harris.

Both Surgner and Harris were transported to Sacred Heart Hospital. Harris was listed in Critical condition at the time of the accident  and Surgner succumbed to his injuries.

According to the news release, it is unknown at this time if alcohol is a factor in the accident. Charges are pending.
