Cantonment Man Faces Life In Prison For Attempted Murder

State Attorney Bill Eddins announced on Friday that Zanterrial DeJohn Carter, age 22, was convicted by an Escambia County Jury of Attempted First Degree Premeditated Murder or Attempted Felony Murder, Burglary of a Dwelling while armed with a Dangerous Weapon and with Assault or Battery, and Grand Theft.

In the early morning hours of November 14, 2015, Zanterrial DeJohn Carter and co-defendant 18 year old Damian Terell Bush, broke into an apartment located in the 2100 block 0f Spink Lane, beat the resident, stole several items and fled the scene.

During the home invasion, Carter and Bush stole several items, including a TV, laptop computer, desktop computer and a small quantity of marijuana. The total value of stolen items was $1,734.

The victim, who suffered deep wounds to his scalp and a broken arm from attempts to block the blows, ran to a neighbor’s house requesting help. The victim was later transported to a local hospital for treatment.

A witness in the area of the crime was able to identify Carter and also provided property to law enforcement that had been stolen from the victim.

Zanterrial DeJohn Carter will be sentenced before Circuit Judge Joel Boles on March 15, 2017 at 1:30 p.m. He faces up to life in state prison.

Damian Terell Bush remains in the Escambia County Jail awaiting trial.

The investigation and arrest were conducted by the Escambia County Sheriff’s Office. Assistant State Attorney Amy Shea prosecuted the case.
