Take a Youth Deer Hunting

November 10, 2016

You have a special opportunity to introduce someone to hunting before Alabama’s gun deer season begins on November 19. Alabama’s Youth Deer Season is November 11-14, 2016.

Youth must be under the age of 16 to participate, and may hunt on privately owned land, leased land and open-permit public land. Several Wildlife Management Areas will be hosting youth deer hunts as well.

While youths under age 16 do not need a license, they must possess a harvest record while hunting, and it must be filled out before moving a harvested animal. A smartphone with the Outdoor Alabama app will be accepted in lieu of a paper harvest record.

All deer harvested in Alabama must be reported through the Game Check system within 48 hours.
How to Use Game Check

To use the harvest record and report a harvest through Game Check, youth must have either a Hunter Exempt License Privilege (HELP) number or a Conservation ID number.

A HELP number is obtained at no charge wherever licenses are sold, including online. A HELP number is only good for one year and must be obtained annually.

A Conservation ID number may also be obtained online. A Conservation ID number stays with the hunter and eliminates the need to obtain a HELP number each year.
