Opp, AL man arrested in florida after he stole a Florala PD patrol car and crashes.

On Sunday, August 14, 2016, at approximately 3:40 p.m. officers with the Florala Police Department responded to 9th street in Florala, AL in reference to a subject brandishing a firearm at a neighbor.

Upon arrival, Officers identified the suspect as Anthony Scott Brown. Further investigation revealed that Brown had active felony warrants out of Florida for Violation of Probation, Grand Theft Auto as well as a local warrant for fleeing and attempting to elude. Contact was made with the Covington County Incident Response team for assistance. Several occupants of the residence where Brown was located were allowed to exit the residence and officers set up a perimeter around the residence to contain Brown. After a brief period of negotiating, Brown surrendered without incident. Brown was placed in hand cuffs behind his back and placed in a patrol car. Officers with the FPD and Deputies with Covington County Sheriff Office entered the residence to secure the scene and recover the firearm while two (2) officers stayed outside with Brown.Florala PD 3

 Brown was able to maneuver the handcuffs in front of his body and climbed through a small window into the front seat. Brown fled the scene in the stolen patrol car heading South into Florida on Highway 85. After a short chase, Brown wrecked the stolen patrol car approximately three (3) miles away and fled on foot.

A perimeter was established with Deputies from Walton County Sheriff’s Office, Covington County Sheriff’s Office, Florala Police Department and the Covington County Drug Task Force. K-9 units from Walton County and Covington County Sheriff’s Office Possee responded to the scene and after a brief period of time, the K-9 team from Walton County apprehended brown approximately 1.5 miles from the scene of the crash. Brown also broke into a vehicle at the residence where he was apprehended at.

Brown will be charged with Theft of property, Escape and reckless driving in Alabama as well as charges in Florida.
