Does The City of Crestview Really Need a Charter Change Pt 2 (with audio)

March 03, 2017

Will Crestview residents vote on the issue of Charter Change again? There lots of talk on the subject this week. Crestview Broadcasting Company has an update on the matter with Former Crestview Mayor Jerry Milligan, and today’s Comment on the News.

Here is today’s “Comment On The News

News around Crestview City Hall this week has revolved around what has been variously described as a lecture and an attack on Crestview’s residents and City government by a researcher for the Mason-Dixon Company. He was representing a Pensacola client, who, for some reason, wants to see Crestview immediately work toward adopting the City Manager Form of Government. That researcher delivered a withering assessment of Crestview’s image in the state and region. If we didn’t have two major highways intersecting here, there would be absolutely NOTHING positive for the gentleman to say.  Local residents and City government leaders – elected and appointed, employees and department heads – are not very understanding of an individual who, in several of his statements, came dangerously close to accusations of dishonesty and corruption. That’s some pretty serious stuff. Earlier in the week on the air here, I encouraged City Council members to wait a few weeks, before again discussing the Charter change topic.

We at the Good Country are pleased to report to you that on Thursday we received a Public Notice from City Clerk Betsy Roy that the Charter Review Workshop, originally set for March 13th, has been cancelled. Council members will discuss Charter change again next month . . . at a regularly scheduled Workshop meeting on Monday, April 24th.

In the meantime, I again urge the Council to remember the axiom of “There’s No Free Lunch” as they consider why does an individual in Pensacola want Crestview to change to a City Manager so much that he is willing to pay most of the financial costs involved.

The preceding is a “Comment on the News” by Former Mayor and City of Crestview Resident, Jerry Milligan.
