DeFuniak Springs, FL – A prison escape Friday morning in Walton County lands two individuals in jail and has area law enforcement diligently hunting for a wanted man.

According to a press release, Walton County Sheriff Michael Adkinson has been in direct communication with Florida Department of Corrections Secretary Ricky Dixon regarding escaped prisoner John Kiedrowski.

Walton County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Intelligence team, Investigators, and Patrol Deputies are working around the clock alongside Department of Corrections personnel to locate Kiedrowski who now has active warrants for escaping a detention facility.

43-year-old Michael Walter Bratton and 45-year-old Shawna Lynn Perkins, both of Freeport, FL have both been arrested for aiding in Kiedrowski’s escape.

At approximately 10:59 am, Friday morning, 59-year-old John Kiedrowski 3, who was serving 14 years and 6 months for multiple charges including grand theft of a firearm, armed burglary and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon among others, walked away from the Walton Correctional Institution, got into a dark colored Chrysler 200 and left the area undetected.

According to The Florida Department of Corrections, Kiedrowski was an administration orderly with minimum supervision at the Walton Work Camp which is located next door to the main institution.

Standard protocol dictates once an inmate is recognized as missing, count is automatically conducted which could last at least 30 minutes. If not located, an emergency recount is conducted which could take another 30 minutes. Once that is completed and the inmate is still unaccounted for an emergency recall is conducted where every inmate of the facility is recalled to the institution which depending on the day of the week and how far a work crew inmate is from the facility, it could take possible an hour. Once that is done and the inmate is still unaccounted for, he is declared as an escapee.

John Kiedrowski III is described as a 59-year-old white male, 6’03” and weighing 185 lbs., and was last wearing a blue inmate uniform with a short-sleeved shirt.

Please do not approach John Kiedrowski. Use extreme caution and call 911.
