Fatal Accident Near Galliver, FL Claims Life of One Person

Baker, Fla. — A fatal accident that occurred Thursday night shortly before 7pm in Okaloosa County resulted in the death of a Red Level Alabama woman and the arrest of a Holt, FL man.

At 6:43pm, Thursday August 1st, both the Baker and Holt Fire Districts responded to a head-on collision with entrapment on Galliver Cut-off just north of Stanley Lane. Dispatch further advised a medical helicopter was automatically being launched.

When first responders arrived on scene, they quickly realized one person was deceased and one other was injured as a result of the two-vehicle collision.

The two-lane roadway of Galliver Cut-off was closed for just over three hours while first responders worked to free the entrapped individual and law enforcement investigated the fatal accident.

Okaloosa County EMS cancelled the helicopter and later transported one individual to a nearby hospital with minor injuries.

Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office responded to assist in traffic control and other first responders.

Charles Edward Stillman

According to a press release from the Florida Highway Patrol and the arrest report, 58-year-old Charles Edward Stillman, of Lighthouse Church Rd in Holt, was traveling south bound on Galliver Cut-off in a black 2020 Ford F-250 pick-up and 28-year-old Erica Jade Skipper from Red Level Alabama was north bound on Galliver Cut-off driving a 2024 Hyundai Palisade. Stillman crossed the center line and collided head-on with the Hyundai.

While Troopers were on scene, Stillman’s wife arrived and stated her husband Mr. Stillman was drunk off his butt. Stillman who was angry and belligerent on scene was transported to HCA Fort Walton Beach Destin Hospital.

During an interview with law enforcement, Stillman admitted to drinking three Yuengling beers at a park after getting off work. Sobriety tests performed by Stillman showed clues of impairment. Upon release, Charles Edward Stillman was placed under arrest for DUI Manslaughter and transported to the Okaloosa County Jail. At first appearance, Stillman was denied bond. His next scheduled court date is September 5th at 1:30 pm.
