Crestview Residential Structure Fire

Friday, June 21, 2024

Crestview, Fla. – What was first dispatched out as a brush fire with a single engine response ended up being a structure fire with multiple fire departments from three different counties responding.

At 9:30 pm, Thursday night, the North Okaloosa Fire District was dispatched to a brush fire in the woods behind Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witness church located at 3601 E. James Lee Blvd.
When firefighters arrived on scene it was revealed the reported brush fire was actually a fully involved residential structure fire located next door. The fire chief then requested the Crestview Fire Department respond.
At approximately 9:40 pm, firefighters had water on the vacant house fire. Upon further assessment, tanker trucks from Holt and Harold were requested for additional water sources.
The Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office responded and shut down both east and west bound traffic on Hwy 90 to prevent motorists from interfering with efforts to put out the fire as crews had fire hoses stretched across Hwy 90 to a fire hydrant.
At 10:25 pm, firefighters had the structure fire under control meaning the fire’s forward progress had been stopped.
Although the residence is located on Hwy 90, it is surrounded by dense woods which hindered firefighting efforts. Fire Departments from Almarante, Holt, Harold, and Mossy Head as well as the City of Crestview responded for mutual aid to help battle the fire as well as Okaloosa County EMS, Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office and Florida Power & Light.
Shortly before 2 am, all first responders were released, and the scene was turned over to the State Fire Marshal’s Office to conduct their investigation into the origin of the fire.
