School Bus versus Farm Tractor in Rural Escambia County

McDavid, Fla. — A traffic crash involving a farm tractor that occurred at approximately 3:53 p.m. Friday afternoon sends a McDavid man to the hospital in serious condition.

A 47-year-old McDavid man was seriously injured when he was ejected from the Ford Workmaster farm tractor, he was operating collided with a school bus.

The farm tractor was traveling eastbound on CR 164 with a big yellow international school bus following behind him. The McDavid man failed to yield to traffic when making a left turn onto Wilma Road, as the Escambia County School bus, operated by a 62-year-old female from Century, went to pass him in a passing zone causing the left side of the tractor to collide with the front bumper of the bus.

The operator of the tractor was air lifted to Baptist hospital with non-life threating injuries. Only 1 of the 24 students, who was a 12-year-old Century girl, on the bus was transported by ambulance for minor injuries.

The Florida Highway Patrol investigated the rural Escambia County accident that blocked the roadway for several hours.
