Okaloosa County, Fla. – A homeless man is now in custody after burglarizing two convenience stores in South Okaloosa County.

On Thursday, April 25th, at 4:45 am, deputies with the Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office responded to a N. Eglin Pkwy convenience store for a reported burglary. After watching security footage from the convenience store, it was determined a white male with unkept shoulder length brown hair with a full beard and mustache, broke the front glass door of the store with a hatchet, stole multiple items and fled the scene on foot.

While deputes were investigating the incident, it was revealed a male subject matching the same description, also burglarized a Shalimar convenience store earlier that morning.

A short time later, an Investigator with the sheriff’s office spotted an individual matching the burglary suspect’s description walking down Highway 98 on Okaloosa Island while on his way in to work. When contact with the suspect, later identified as 34-year-old Klynn Dennis Jones, was made, Jones resisted the deputies before he was detained and ultimately arrested.

According to the release from the sheriff’s office, Jones was wearing the same clothes seen in the security footage at the time of his arrest and still had the stolen items in his possession.

Klynn Dennis Jones has been charged with two counts of armed burglary, two counts of petit theft, resisting an officer without violence and possession of a weapon by a convicted felon.

According to court and jail records, Jones was released from the Okaloosa County jail less than 24 hours earlier, after serving a four-month sentence for armed trespassing, possession of a weapon by a convicted felon and resisting an officer without violence.

Jones is currently in custody at the Okaloosa County Jail without bond and will remain there at least until his scheduled court date of June 13, 2024.
