Okaloosa County Deputies receive Life Saving Award

Crestview Fla. – On Sunday, March 3, shortly after 9am, deputies with the Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office responded to an address on Patton within the City limits of Crestview to assist CPD.
Upon their arrival a stabbing suspect was in custody however the victim was unaccounted for.
Sergeant Colin Savoie and Deputy Matthew Langer searched the immediate area for approximately 10 minutes and discovered the victim collapsed in a slightly wooded portion of an alleyway approximately 200 yards from the location of the altercation.
Deputies stayed with the victim who was bleeding heavily from an estimated 6-inch-long stab wound under his right arm near his armpit. Direct pressure was applied to the wound and deputies were successful in slowing, and then stopping the bleeding while the victim was losing consciousness. Deputies continued applying pressure to the wound with a pressure dressing and gauze from an Individual First Aid Kit that Sgt. Savoie was issued during his attendance on a SWAT Tactical Medic course until crews from the Crestview Fire Department and Okaloosa County EMS arrived on scene and took over treatment of the victim.
EMS Medical Commander Heather Overstreet, who was present at the scene, stated without the actions taken by Sgt. Savoie and Deputy Langer, the victim would have died from his injuries at the scene.
For their exemplary service and outstanding commitment to preserving life Sergeant Colin Savoie and Deputy Matthew Langer were presented with the Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office Life Saving Award.
This is the 3rd Life Saving Award for both Sgt. Savoie & Deputy Langer.
