Crestview Man Arrested for Attempting to Flee & Elude Law Enforcement on a Bicycle

Crestview, Fla — A Crestview man remains behind bars after fleeing from the Crestview Police Department on a Bicycle in March.
According to an arrest report, a patrol officer was in the area of S Ferdon Blvd and Robinson Ave on the evening of Sunday, March 24th attempting to locate 31-year-old Montana Marquis Yaws in reference to an open investigation.
The Crestview Police officer, who was wearing a department issued uniform in a marked patrol car, observed a person matching the description of Yaws at the intersection of West Robinson Ave and South Ferdon Blvd on a bicycle. The officer exited his patrol car and attempted contact with Yaws, ordering him to stop and come to him. The arrest report stated Yaws stared at the officer and began to flee west bound on Robinson Ave on the bicycle.

A second officer, who witnessed the encounter, started following Yaws in his marked patrol car with lights and siren activated. The chase ended at the intersection of W Robinson Ave and S Wilson Street where Yaws dumped the bicycle and fled into a wooded area on foot ignoring commands by officers to stop.
After catching up to Yaws, a brief struggle ensued before officers were able to gain control of Yaws and place him in restraints.
A search of Yaw’s backpack incident to arrest revealed one gram of Methamphetamine, one gram of Marijuana, and a smoking device, commonly referred to as a meth pipe, with methamphetamine residue. A database search revealed Yaws did not possess a medical marijuana prescription.
On October 24, 2023, Yaws was arrested by the Crestview police Department on charges of Grand Theft, Burglary, and resisting an officer without violence. Yaws pled no contest to the charge of resisting an officer without violence, found guilty, ordered to pay a fine and court costs, and served 30 days in the county jail. On December 7th, Yaws was released on bond in the amount of $7,000.00 for the charges of burglary and grand theft.
On December 30, 2023, Yaws was arrested for petit theft, found guilty and ordered probation, court costs, restitution, and community service.
When Yaws appeared in front of a judge for first appearance on the charges from March 24th of this year, he was charged with contempt of court for violating conditions of his bond from the October 24th arrest for burglary and grand theft and the judge revoked his bond.
Montana Marquis Yaws will remain in custody at the Okaloosa County Jail until his trial date.
