Okaloosa County Warrant Service Turns Into Deadly Encounter

Baker, Fla — A warrant service by the Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office early Wednesday morning turned into a deadly encounter with the suspect.

The deadly encounter took place at 5727 Griffith Cemetery Rd. in Baker, FL around midnight Wednesday Morning.

According to a news release from the Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office, Deputies traveled to the Baker residence in an attempt to take 38-year-old, Daniel Reed Wesson, into custody for the outstanding warrants of violation of probation on two counts of possession of a controlled substance, possession of burglary tools, and trespassing.

During the encounter, Wesson charged at the deputies with knife in hand forcing the deputies to use lethal force on him to protect their selves by shooting him.

Wesson was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.

Per standard protocols the OCSO member involved will be placed on paid administrative leave pending the outcome of an investigation by the Criminal Investigations Division and review by the State Attorney’s Office.
