Mossy Head, FL— Firefighters quickly knocked down a camper fire that broke out Sunday morning in Mossy Head.

At 10:32 AM, Walton County Fire Rescue crews were dispatched to a structure fire on Mint Street. Neighbors called 911 after looking out their window and seeing flames coming from a nearby camper.

When the Walton County Sheriff’s Office arrived on scene to assist, they found heavy flames and smoke coming from a camper parked under a large metal barn. Deputies had evacuated a nearby home due to ammunition going off and propane tanks exploding because of the blaze. Walton County Fire Rescue crews arrived moments later and quickly deployed an attack line to extinguish the flames.

DeFuniak Springs Fire Department and volunteers from Liberty also provided assistance in knocking down the fire.

Within twenty minutes of the initial 911 call, Walton County Fire Rescue command called the fire out and crews began overhaul operations.

The owner of the residence was not home at the time the fire broke out. Unfortunately, firefighters later found the homeowner’s dog deceased inside the camper.

The cause of the fire is believed to be electrical in nature.

Walton County Fire Rescue would like to thank DeFuniak Springs Fire Department and Liberty volunteers for their assistance on scene.
