Monday, May 13, 2024
Baker, Fla. — With the Baker Gators having already started practice for the upcoming 2024-25 football season, a head football coach has yet to be named.
The application deadline ended on Monday, May 6th with 20 applicants applying for the prestigious job.
That list of 20 has now been narrowed to a list of the top 5 based on qualifications from their resumes and interviews for those five are being scheduled as we speak.
The six-member committee, who will interview the applicants, will consist of Baker School Principal Michael Martello, Baker Athletic Director John Carlisle, as well as stakeholders. The stakeholders, who will not be identified until the process is over, are mostly Baker Alumni consisting of staff, former players, parents, and community members.
According to the projected timeline, the top 5 will be narrowed to the top 3 candidates by the committee on or about May 18th and Principal Martello will recommend his selection to Superintendent Marcus Chambers hopefully by May 20th .
If a new coach is selected by May 20th, it will be just in time for the annual Maroon & White game. The annual game was originally scheduled for May 13th but due to inclement weather is was rescheduled for Monday, May 20th at 6pm.
