Gov. Scott Highlights Proposed Funding and Legislation to Combat Opioid Abuse

February 1, 2018

Naples, Fla. – Today, Governor Rick Scott joined Collier County law enforcement officials to highlight his $53 million in recommended funding and proposed legislation to combat opioid abuse. The legislation, HB 21 and SB 8, follows Governor Scott’s proposal to limit the chance of drug addiction, reduce the ability for dangerous drugs to spread in Florida’s communities, give vulnerable Floridians the support they need, and ensure law enforcement officers have resources to protect Floridians impacted by opioids. Both bills are advancing in the legislature.

Governor Scott also recognized two officers with the Collier County Sheriff’s Office, Cpl. Matt Piccoli and Cpl. Cari DePasquale, for their efforts responding to a potential overdose in North Naples earlier this month. Working together with their fellow first responders in EMS, Cpl. Piccoli and Cpl. DePasquale were able to ensure the individual received the emergency medical attention needed to save his life.
