Three Vehicle Accident on Airport Rd in Crestview Sends Seven to Area Hospitals

Crestview, FL – A late afternoon wreck on Airport Rd in Crestview that involved three vehicles sent seven people to area hospitals. Six of the seven were listed with serious injuries.

According to a Florida Highway Patrol press release, Thomas Haney of Crestview, Fl was operating a 1991 Toyota van and was traveling East on Airport Rd.

Mary Gaskill of Crestview, FL, who was operating a 2002 Ford SUV, was stopped in the eastbound lane of Airport Rd. waiting to make a left turn onto Hillary St.

Paula Moon of Crestview, FL was operating a 2007 Toyota Van traveling West on Airport Rd. just east of Hillary St.

Being unable to make a left turn onto Hillary St. safely, Gaskill remained stopped waiting for Moon who was approaching the intersection to pass by.

According to the news release, Haney, who was west of the intersection, failed to slow and maintain control of his 1991 Toyota Van as he approached the rear of Gaskill’s vehicle. The report further stated Haney applied his brakes attempting to stop and steered left of the center line in an attempt to avoid colliding with the rear of Gaskill’s 2002 Ford SUV. With Haney failing to stop in time, the right front of his vehicle struck the left rear of Gaskill’s vehicle.

The report further stated Haney entered the west bound lane of travel and collided with Moon’s 2007 Toyota Van head on.

Haney, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was transported to the Fort Walton Beach Medical Menter with serious injuries.

Moon, who was wearing a seatbelt, was transported to the North Okaloosa Medical Center with minor injuries. Moon’s five juvenile passengers were all transported to the Sacred Heart Hospital with serious injuries. All five passengers were listed as either wearing seatbelts or in a child restraint device.

Gaskill and her passenger, Dennis Edge, both refused medical treatment at the scene.

The report which states alcohol was not a factor is still under investigation and charges are pending.
